LOOMIS ENZYMES
Has your primary care physician ever talked to you about low enzyme count? Enzymes are naturally produced proteins that help speed up metabolism and the chemical reactions of the body. Enzymes are found on every cell and aid in bodily functions such as digestion, DNA replication, liver toxin breakdown, cell division and repair, hormone regulation, muscle contraction, respiration, etc. When an enzyme deficiency is present, the body can’t breakdown certain proteins and it can be life threatening if treatment and modifications are not performed.
Enzyme deficiencies are inherited and happen at birth. Severe conditions must be handled by the appropriate specialist, but in this blog, we will focus on digestive enzymes. Digestive enzymes are primarily produced in the pancreas and help breakdown food and aid with digestion. Though many enzyme insufficiency disorders are fatal, they are quite rare. Some common minor symptoms of enzyme deficiency include stomach pain, bloating, gas, diarrhea, oily stools, and unexplained weight loss.
People diagnosed with an enzyme insufficiency often need to take prescription digestive enzymes. These supplements help the body process food and absorb nutrients better. The most common and the only FDA-regulated enzyme replacement therapy is pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT). PERT is a medication your doctor prescribes that includes amylase, lipase, and protease. It helps break down carbs, fats, and proteins.
What Are Loomis Enzymes?
How about supplements? Supplements containing enzymes are becoming more popular and studies are showing beneficial improvements in gut health and proper digestion. At our office, we offer a select few digestive enzyme supplements from a company called Loomis Enzymes.
Loomis Enzymes was established in 1995 by Dr. Howard F. Loomis, Jr, a 1967 graduate of Logan Chiropractic College. Loomis Enzymes currently has 53 products that promote health to different areas of the body including digestion, skeletal, muscle, nerve, heart, hormonal, reproductive, etc.
A our facility, we currently only carry three Loomis Enzyme products: PAN, BIL, and HCL.
- PAN-assists with breaking down sugars more easily.
- BIL-assists with digestion and helps expel gas from the stomach and bowels.
- HCL-helps protect and strengthen the actions of the stomach.
All Loomis Enzymes are manufactured in FDA registered facilities and contain all natural, non-GMO ingredients. If you are experiencing issues with your gut or want to learn more about other Loomis products, talk to one of our doctors. Although we don’t carry the entire Loomis line, we can order these products for individuals as needed. We have supplied other Loomis products that we don’t regularly carry that benefit patients.
