PREPARING FOR ALLERGY SEASON

March weather in Pennsylvania is always unpredictable. One day it’s 28 degrees and snowing, and the next day it’s 70 degrees and sunny. When precipitation increases and the sun’s ultraviolet rays become stronger, grass starts growing, flowers begin blooming and pollen counts rise. As pretty as spring is, allergies can put a damper in your day-to-day life as they overwhelm your body’s immune system.

When a foreign substance that triggers an allergy enters the body, the immune system releases antibodies to help fight the infection and releases inflammatory cytokines such as histamine and cortisol (stress hormone) to repair the body.

Instead of turning to allergy medicine, find some natural remedies that can reduce symptoms. Increasing your Vitamin C, D and zinc intake will help boost the immune system, and running an air diffuser with natural oils will cleanse the air with healing benefits.

Remember to get regular adjustments, as chiropractic significantly improves allergy symptoms by optimizing the nervous system, allowing the immune system to do its job efficiently.

STRETCH OF THE MONTH

CAT-COW STRETCH

The cat-cow stretching exercise helps to stretch the thoracolumbar paraspinals and the abdominal muscle. This helps to improve the spinal curvature and strengthen the core stabilizer muscles. 

STEP 1: Get on all fours (Quadruped Position)

STEP 2: Start in the cat position (arched back) and hold that position for 3 seconds.

Step 3: Relax and immediately move into the cow position (stretched back) and hold that position for 3 seconds.Step 4: Repeat intervals until you complete 2-3 minutes in each position.
