CLINIC UPDATES

Last month, we did a Mother’s Day special to show our appreciation for all the moms out there. June is the perfect time of the year to go golfing, play catch or just do something outside.

Do you know who likes all of those things? Dads. Spending time outdoors doing the things we love can come with a price. Make sure to show your dad some extra love by giving him a discounted adjustment at Laurel Mountain Chiropractic Center.

BLOG HIGHLIGHTS

June’s blog finished up our topic on non-surgical spinal decompression as we compared our service to other medical interventions including medications, injections, surgery, etc.

In addition to discussing western medicine treatments, we also compared alternative therapies including physical therapy, massage, acupuncture and chiropractic care to spinal decompression therapy.

If you or someone you know has tried western medicine therapies, including surgery, and nothing worked, give us a call so that we can determine if decompression is your path to a better quality of life.

THE UPS AND DOWNS OF GARDENING

It’s usually safe to say that snow is done this time of the year. Most gardening connoisseurs will start prepping their garden in March, but June is the peak season of thriving flowers and food plot maintenance.

The benefits of gardening include fresh food, no chemicals, different recipes, healthier eating and if you have a green thumb, food storage for the winter. An additional benefit for flower gardens is the spread pollination and the beautiful benefits the honeybee can create.

The downfalls of flower and food gardening are the many tasks and long maintenance needed for a successful garden. These downfalls include injury from heavy lifting or being in stooped positions for long periods, sunburn, or dehydration. Other downfalls that don’t affect the body are keeping animals out, pulling weeds, and the stench of body odor after a long day’s work.

When weighing the pros and cons, we highly approve gardening because of the physical benefits the come from both hard work put into the garden and the fresh food being consumed. Be cautious when making any sudden movements, and remember that if you do get hurt, call your chiropractor so that they can help you.

STRETCH OF THE MONTH

WALL ANGELS

The figure 4 stretch can be done either lying down or in a seated position. This exercise helps stretch the hip, groin and lumbar paraspinal muscles.

STEP 1: Cross one leg over the opposite knee and have the foot resting on the kneecap shown in the image.

STEP 2: Interlock your fingers on the supported knee and press toward your chest as you drive your knee into your hands to add resistance. Hold for 7-10 seconds.

STEP 3: Relax and repeat.

**We recommend doing this stretch 3-5 sets 2-3 times a day. **
